What happens in a private yoga session?

Upon booking, we will collect some information with an online form (experience, injuries, interests).

On arrival, we will have a short chat to clarify anything. Then we move through the practice.

This includes:

Mantra: sounding or chanting. We like an OM :) You can join in or just listen.

Asana: movement and postures, both held and active.

Pranayama: breath and energy work. This includes: ujjai, active breathing and passive breathing.

Meditation: quiet reflection. We offer this throughout the practice, and also at the beginning and end.

Yogic Wisdom: our sessions have a mantra, sutra or sound that we use as our anchor into the practise.

Everything is tailored and safe; and no unsolicited adjustments.

What kind of yoga is it?

We teach Hatha Yoga, where we use physical techniques to balance the energy in the body.

As taught to us by Yogrishi Vishvketu, founder of Akhanda™...

...yoga is a “work in,” not a workout. It’s practical inner work to connect body, breath, mind, and spirit so you feel balanced and present, not just bendy.

The yoga we teach is grounded: it’s the full, rounded experience of yoga practise. We don't just select the bits that we like.

About the Yoga

Is this like a fitness class or fast flow?

No. If you want gym-style yoga or quick Vinyasa flow, this isn't it.

Having said that, you will definitely move your body and how much you put into the postures...

...is up to you.

You will experience yogic breathing techniques, that will be new for some people.

And we also encourage a little bit of chanting. You can choose to join in or just listen.

We use these practical tools for clarity, calm, and connection in daily life; it's not just a workout.

This is a rounded and grounded yoga practice.

What if I have injuries or health concerns?

Our private sessions are ideal for these sorts of situations.

We adapt everything to your body; we can slow down, and even tailor more pranayama/breathwork and meditation focused sessions, if you prefer.

Share any issues when you fill in the online form, so we can support you in your session.

Do I need any experience or flexibility to book?

No experience required.

Sessions are open to complete beginners and all bodies. No acrobatics, no need to be bendy or fit.

We meet you exactly where you are; no judgment, no pressure.

What should I wear? Do I need a mat? Should I eat before?

Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move easily.

We provide mats. Let us know on the form if you prefer to use your own.

Yoga practice is best on an empty belly. We recommend no food for at least two hours prior.
